A PROGRAM FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF DATA – DRIVEN LEADERS
Overview
The Data Institute’s underlying goal of the Graduate Certificate Program is to train the next generation of skilled data scientists with substantial multidisciplinary understanding, broad analytical skills and technological abilities.
The program delivers interactive in-person data-centred training and involves 12 credits of courses split into 3 Quarters and 1 credit of a tailored Capstone Project in the 4th Quarter that requires collaboration with industry experts including a comprehensive hands on project and presentation.
DIP’s faculty provides mentorship and advising and offers need and merit-based financial aid for students enrolled in the certificate program. Our Graduate Certificate Program is open for enrollment on a rolling basis, graduate students with STEM degrees are eligible to enrol. Underrepresented individuals are strongly encouraged to enrol and complete the program.
Completion of the program is expected in 12 months.

Application Flow
Application
Candidate details will be placed in our Student Information database on our website. We will send login credentials by email, and the candidates will be asked to upload documents and enter additional information to finalise their application.
Confirmation of Application
Immediately following their application, they should receive a confirmation by e-mail, so they know their application has been received. If they are still required to submit documents, we will send additional instructions via e-mail about what the candidates need to do to complete their application.
Take-Home Exam
We first check whether we have all the information we need to assess the candidate’s specific application. The candidates will be given a take-home exam which they take in their space (e.g. at home), by downloading the paper and uploading their answers. We will then determine whether they can be called for an interview. Once they have submitted all relevant details, the admissions committee will assess the exam.
Interview
These interviews will involve a discussion between the shortlisted candidates and the management. They will be asked to discuss why they want to study the course and what makes them a strong candidate. They may be asked to complete a relevant task. Some interviews may be informal and in a group setting.
Accepted/Rejected
The candidates will be sent an e-mail with an admission notice together with instructions for the confirmation of thier application. Those candidates who do not meet the admission requirements for the program will have their application rejected. This will be explained in the email that is sent to them.
Payment
To ensure attendance, a ‘Spot Reservation’ fee will be deposited by the accepted candidates to confirm their seats for the program. Payments will be deposited in the designated banks, and If necessary, we will offer financial aid for underprivileged students (See Financial Aid).
Enrolment
When the tuition fees have been paid, and all necessary documents have been submitted, a final check will be carried out. Once everything has been approved, candidates will be enrolled for the program. They can follow this process via their ‘status’ on our website. If we have any further questions, we will get in touch.
Statement Of Enrolment
They will receive a statement of enrolment by mail.
Kick-In
The Kick-In is the introduction period for all new students at the Data Institute before the first quarter begins
Financial Guidelines
Prospective Students
During the submission of the application process, please indicate whether you require any financial aid. The deadline is the same as applying for admissions. Financial Aid supporting documents need to be sent along with the admission application before or on the specified deadline. Independent financial aid applications are not entertained.
Assessment Process
We assess the financial need of candidates and determine whether the candidate’s family has adequate resources to support the fee or not. The need is determined based on the financial credentials submitted by the student. The decision and its review follow the stages outlined below:
Students who apply are required to submit the necessary documentation by the deadline specified by us.
The staff at the Data Institute checks and reconciles the information on the Financial Aid form against the documents provided including their tenure and validity; seeking clarifications from the applicant/ student on anomalies if any.
Applicants are contacted for retrieval of discrepant documents (where necessary).
Student Evaluation Summary sheets are prepared that contains a summary of the credentials provided covering all the aspects to be presented to the Institute for the final decision.
Interviews are conducted where recommended.
The Data Institute Financial Aid Committee (Staff or Board) assesses each case through the summary sheet and reviews supporting documents before making their decision, which is purely based on need.
The decision is communicated to the students through an official Letter of Financial Arrangement.
The process is conducted at the beginning of each quarter where students and parents are approached by DIP to submit the required forms and supporting financial documents. Failure to comply with the given deadlines for document submission could lead to cancellation of financial aid.
